Maginhawa Resto#8: Frosted Desserts & Barkin’ Bakes

After having peri-peri chicken for lunch at Tornado, we walked around the area to look for a place where we could get our dessert. Good thing we stumbled upon Frosted Desserts. Upon entering the place, we were welcomed by some dogs who were customers of the Barkin’ Bakes, a “treat cafe for pets and their humans”.

We were not really into trying the cupcakes although they looked good. I just wanted to have my caffeine for the day so I ordered coffee while my bf ordered their apple crumble. We were happy with what we had.  🙂

More than our orders, we were fortunate that the owner (I assumed she’s the owner or at least one of them) was there preparing a cake order for her client’s dog. She shared a lot of interesting information about a dog’s diet. You’ll see how passionate she is about what she’s doing. Really inspiring indeed!

Products from Barkin’ Bakes are made available at Frosted Desserts. Dog lovers would be delighted to know that you could have cakes and pastries made for your dogs. You could even have a party for your pet at the cafe!

I enjoyed our stay there not just because the place was cozy and I felt that we were well-entertained by the owner, but also because there were few customers then. I heard the place gets crowded towards the evening.

I wasn’t able to get the name of the owner but we’ll definitely come back and know more about her. 🙂

Maginhawa Resto#7: Tornado Peri-peri Chicken

I’ve been wanting to try out Tornado Peri-peri Chicken when I saw it featured in Poptalk. The guests from the show seemed to like what they had from this Maginhawa restaurant. I googled their location and menu to make sure that I’m prepared when I get there.

We ordered their 1/4 chicken with side dish and rice (Php125) and an iced tea (Php30).

The sauces add zing to the peri-peri chicken. You can choose from original (the green sauce from the right picture above), tiger’s fury (left pic above), and dragon’s breath.

The place is quite small – 3 tables inside and 2 tables outside which can accommodate a total of 20 people. So if you plan to go there, try off peak hours. 🙂

Maginhawa Resto#6: The Sweet Spot

After having breakfast for dinner, we looked for another place to have our dessert. Just by it’s name, we thought there’ll definitely be something for us at The Sweet Spot.

Much to our surprise, they do not only serve desserts but they also serve main courses. I didn’t get to glimpse much at their main courses as I was busy deciding which dessert to have.

I decided to have their salted caramel chocolate cake. A slice costs Php100 – reasonable I think. It tastes just like what its name says.

My sisters ordered their ube cake and walnut turtle pie.

The place was really spacious. They even have a second floor. The seats were comfortable couches where you can just stay for hours and work on your laptop or just chill with your friends.

I like their wall decor too!

Maginhawa Resto#5: Ally’s All-day Breakfast Place

After 3 months, I got to jog again at UP Diliman. That started my Maginhawa series. As what seems to be like becoming a ritual, I also got to eat at Maginhawa St. this time at Ally’s All-day Breakfast Place.

As what the resto’s name is, the place serves breakfast meals including pancakes, crepes, and waffles. A meal costs more or less Php150/person and it includes a glass of iced tea already. It really filled up my hungry tummy.

The bacon dynamite’s quite intriguing and it was interesting to eat. 🙂

As with other Maginhawa restos, the place is not that big but cozy enough to accommodate around 24 people inside and may be 12 more outside. They are located at 50 Malingap Street, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.

Maginhawa Resto#4: Crepeman

After our Mexican dining at Casa Quesadilla, we decided to have our dessert at Crepeman. It’s a few blocks away from Casa Quesadilla.

We ordered 1 mango peach crepe which costs Php100 and added 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream for Php30. I thought the crepe will be served on a plate but to our surprise, it was served like an ice cream cone.

Contrary to our experience from Casa Quesadilla, the servers at Crepeman were very accommodating and polite.

Although the crepe was hard to eat in the manner that it was served, we still enjoyed our stay because of the good customer service they have. I really hope they’d serve the crepe in a plate to enjoy it better.

Maginhawa Resto#3: Casa Quesadilla

Casa Quesadilla is located at 176 Maginhawa St., Sikatuna Village, Quezon City. They serve Mexican food mainly quesadillas and burritos. Their place is quite small, probably where you will just eat and go but not hang out.

We were excited to try their quesadillas and burritos but because I know that my bf and I have the tendency to order too much when we’re hungry, I told him to order just the burritos first (since they’re heavy in the tummy) and we could order the quesadillas later (if we will still have room for it). We ordered 1 chicken burrito (Php120) and 1 Mexican beef burrito (Php130) and we gave each other half of what we got. Their iced tea costs Php30 per glass.

The burritos tasted good. The Mexican beef burrito is tastier than the chicken burrito probably because of the difference in ingredients. We were already full so we opted not to buy some quesadillas plus the waitress was rude, which made wanna go somewhere else.

Bad customer service is really a turn off. Sometimes it matters more than the food they serve. I’ll think twice or thrice if I really wanna go back here just because of the rude waitress. Their food is good but there are several Mexican restos out there (even along Maginhawa too) that probably have better customer service than they do.

I guess my verdict’s easy to guess:

If you’re craving for Persian food with a limited budget, go to Al Farsi at #123 V. Luna Extension (Maginhawa Street), Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.

There were 4 of us and our total bill is Php880, Php220 per person (includes their homemade iced tea which I find lacking in sweetness).

Maginhawa Resto 1: Friuli

It’s a goal of mine (and my bf) to try out the different restaurants along Maginhawa St. in Quezon City. I have tried a couple of them but was not able to blog about them. Maybe when I get to eat there again.

Anyway, here’s a first to my series of Maginhawa Resto posts. After jogging at UP Diliman with my sister and her bf, we decided to nourish ourselves at Friuli (my sister picked the plcae). My sister’s been here a couple of times and she likes the food there. Their menu is very simple – pizza and pasta (and a couple of soups and mozzarella sticks). Their prices are very affordable. None of their items in the menu costs more than Php300.

Here’s what we ordered:

The margherita was good (and healthy). The spaghetti carbonara tasted like bacon that is sweet. The mozzarella sticks were a good appetizer. We also ordered a pitcher of iced tea. How much was our bill? We shelled out Php180 each. And I thought we were hungry from the jogging. Well, we had fishballs before heading to Friuli. haha! 🙂

If you love Italian food, this is a must-try. The place is quite small and people are waiting in line to get a table. So better go there early.
